Beware of fake web-sites selling counterfeit Ugg® Australia boots

You need to take care when ordering "Ugg" boot from offshore web-sites. In many countries around the world, "Ugg" is just a generic name for the type of boot that look like the ones you see on this site, just like people in the UK often call any vacuum cleaner a "Hoover". For that reason, it wasn't possible for the Ugg® brand owners (Deckers - see www.deckers.com) to register the brand as a trademark in many countries. So, its perfectly legal for these places to sell in their own country what we would consider counterfeit Ugg boots, but not in the UK.

All products you see on this site are the official Ugg Footwear® brand owned by Deckers and imported through their UK agent.

How to tell a fake Ugg site

Generally, fake sites don't display their address or telephone number, obviously, because they don't want a visit from trading standard authorities! Check the home page, contact page and about page, and if they're not honest enough to tell you who they are, it's best not to buy. Also beware of sites that list an 'temporary' email address from gmail, hotmail or yahoo rather than a proper one using their own domain name. They do this so that they can swap to another one if it is blocked or traced.

Ugg sites in Australia

The Ugg boot originated in Australia, so Australian and New Zealand companies are well within their rights to sell boots which they describe as Uggs in their own countries. However, they are not the same as the products sold in the UK as Ugg® Australia. There's no reason why you shouldn't buy from such companies, but it's still puzzling why some of these sites don't display their address & phone number.

Tracing fake Ugg site owners

It's usually possible to trace the ownership of counterfeit Ugg boots by the domain name using a WHOIS facility on the internet if it's a ".com" or Nominet if a ".co.uk".

You can check any website ending in ".co.uk" on the Nominet site. Enter the domain name without any 'www' prefix into the WHOIS box on the right-hand side of the page.

For othe domains (e.g., ".com", use whois.net - enter just the domain name without the 'ww' prefix or the ".com" suffix).
